Omaha Air Force Station

1951 - 1968


Omaha AFS was in service from 1951 through 1968, providing Air Defense Command radar data via search and altitude radar arrays. By 1963 the site into the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment system and also served as headquarters for the U.S. Army's 6th Missile Battalion, 43rd Artillery commanding area Nike-Hercules sites from 1960 to 1966. Omaha AFS closed by 1968 but remains tied to the FAA radar system to this day.
